There are two versions of the train’s itinerary. Day one of the journey from the Andes to the coast takes passengers from Quito to Lasso. The train travels through landscapes with the most dazzling views of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world famous for its conical shape and majestic snow-capped summit. The day’s excursions include a visit to Cotopaxi National Park and lunch at an hacienda.
Day two will carry on from Lasso to Riobamba with visits to a fair trade rose plantation and an interpretation center where passengers can learn about the fascinating hieleros who traditionally ascend to the snowy glaciers on the slopes of Chimborazo to harvest ice.
Day three will take passengers from Riobamba down to the town of Bucay. Along the way they will visit the architectural marvel known as the Balbanera Church as well as experience the Devil’s Nose which is a world famous engineering feat descending down the high mountain incline zigzagging along train tracks unlike any others on the globe.
Day four concludes the journey with travel from Bucay to Durán. Passengers will visit the Shuar indigenous community and learn about:
